Although Daniela initially distrusts him, she discovers that he has also suffered under MacNamara’s control. Fortunately, she still carries two vials of the drug needed to access the Corridor.
Daniela offers to explain the Box’s operation in exchange for their freedom. MacNamara accepts, giving them an opportunity to escape.
What Happens to Agent MacNamara?
Daniela and Jason take MacNamara inside the Box and administer the drug, allowing him to experience the Corridor for the first time.
MacNamara opens a door leading to a crowded beach, where people appear to be celebrating. However, the gathering takes place during the final moments before a catastrophic impact destroys the surrounding world.
As MacNamara realizes the danger, Jason closes the Box’s door, trapping him outside.
MacNamara almost certainly dies in the disaster, although the episode does not explicitly confirm his death. Daniela and Jason escape, leaving their next destination uncertain.
Jason Meets His Other Self
Elsewhere, Jason Prime finally confronts Jason 2, the version responsible for creating the original Box and disrupting his family.
Their conversation reveals how differently their lives developed despite their shared past. Jason 2 explains the personal sacrifices behind his scientific achievement, while Jason Prime recognizes how his relationships shaped his choices.
Meanwhile, Charlie visits a reality where his deceased twin brother, Max, survived. Their emotional reunion gives Charlie a glimpse of the family life he lost, although his problems remain unresolved.
Dark Matter Episode 9 Ending Explained
The episode’s biggest development involves Blair’s plan to disable the Boxes.
After reuniting with Amanda, Ryan, and Blair, Jason Prime learns that the original Box could contain the key to shutting down the entire interconnected system.
Blair proposes installing a kill switch in its master code, potentially preventing new Boxes from appearing across different realities.
However, the plan raises another problem. Daniela and Charlie remain separated from Jason Prime, and disabling the Boxes before reuniting could leave them stranded.
