According to recent reports, Apple is preparing a massive wave of hardware updates for its tablet lineup. Apple plans to release three new iPad models in the first half of 2027. Fans can expect updated versions of the base model, the Air, and the premium Pro edition. This concentrated release schedule suggests it will pack its major tablet announcements into the opening months of the year.

Apple plans chip and display upgrades for three upcoming tablets

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the 2027 Air will finally make the jump to an OLED screen. It will likely run on the M5 chip, giving it a solid performance bump. For the higher-end Pro, Apple plans to introduce a vapor chamber cooling system. This thermal upgrade will help the device manage heat better during heavy workloads. The Pro model is also expected to feature the M6 chip.

Meanwhile, the entry-level iPad 12 will receive its own set of practical improvements. Rumors point to an A19 chip, which will allow it to support Apple Intelligence features. It should also include the N1 chip for Wi-Fi 7 compatibility and a more power-efficient C1X modem for cellular versions.

The new iPad mini offers OLED display starting at $699

These 2027 launch rumors follow a recent hardware refresh for the smallest tablet in the family. Last month, Apple revealed the new iPad mini, giving it an 8.5-inch OLED screen and a thinner body. The device runs on the A20 Pro processor and now features IP67 water and dust resistance.

Buyers in the US can purchase the updated mini at a starting price of $699. The base model comes with 128GB of storage. Preorders opened on October 28, and retail availability officially begins on November 6. This update marks a big step up for the compact device before the rest of the lineup gets attention next year.
