None of those possibilities should be mistaken for a confirmed answer. The platform has not released a character name, a cause of death or a culprit. The useful theory is therefore modest: Lamb treats the death as meaningful because it has an intelligence connection, not merely because he has suddenly become sentimental.
Lamb knows what happens after MI5 gives up on people
Slough House is built for agents whose mistakes ended their mainstream careers. That makes a former Slow Horse different from an unknown victim. Leaving the unit may end a job, but it does not erase the contacts, grudges, operational knowledge or vulnerabilities accumulated there.
