Apple guarantees a refund of the difference if it cuts the price of an iPhone 18 Pro within 14 calendar days of when you receive it. It has published no matching deadline for adding AppleCare, even though many buyers assume one exists the same way it does for the price-protection window.
There is a second, unrelated 14-day clock running at the same time for anyone trading in a device, and it starts on the same day for a completely different reason. Reading the three together is more useful than treating any one of them as the whole picture.
Key facts on iPhone 18 Pro’s post-delivery clocks
| Clock | What Apple publishes | Starts |
|---|---|---|
| Price protection | A refund or credit of the difference if Apple cuts the price within 14 calendar days of receipt, claimed within 14 days of that price change | The day you receive the phone |
| Standard return period | Set on the same Sales and Refund Policies page as price protection, at 14 days from receipt | The day you receive the phone |
| Trade-in estimate validity | “Your trade-in estimate is valid for 14 days after you receive your new device.” | The day you receive the new phone |
| AppleCare purchase deadline | Not published for iPhone 18 Pro in the sources reviewed | Not stated |
| AppleCare+ per-device price | Not published; Apple’s pricing tables are populated client-side and are absent from the served page | Not applicable |
Price protection, in Apple’s own words
Apple’s Sales and Refund Policies state it directly: “Should Apple reduce the price on any Apple-branded product within 14 calendar days from the date you receive your product, visit an Apple Store location or contact Retail Customer Care at 1-800-MY-APPLE within 14 days of the price change to request a refund or credit of the difference in price.” Read closely, that is two 14-day windows stacked on top of each other: the price cut itself has to happen within 14 days of delivery, and once it does, you have another 14 days from that price change to actually claim the difference.

The clock starts on the day you receive your iPhone 18 Pro, not the day you placed the order. Pre-orders opened September 12; most deliveries are dated September 18, so anyone who orders on the first morning and receives the phone on launch day is protected against a price cut through roughly the start of October, not from the middle of September.
A second clock nobody mentions: your trade-in estimate
Apple’s trade-in program runs its own, unrelated 14-day window off the same delivery date. “Your trade-in estimate is valid for 14 days after you receive your new device,” which means the number you were quoted when you started the trade-in can expire before your traded device is even in the mail, if you wait. It has nothing to do with price protection; one is about the new phone’s price, the other is about the old phone’s value, and both simply happen to run 14 days from the same delivery.
The AppleCare deadline that is not in Apple’s published terms
This is where the pattern breaks. Apple confirms in its own release that AppleCare+ and AppleCare One plans “are available” for iPhone 18 Pro, but nothing in the pages reviewed for this piece states a deadline for adding one after purchase, and nothing states a price either. Apple’s support pricing tables carry rows for iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Duo, AirPods 5, Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, but the monthly and annual figures in those rows are populated client-side and are absent from the HTML Apple actually serves. A widely repeated $10.49-a-month figure for iPhone Pro AppleCare+ dates to an early-2026 increase and has not been confirmed against iPhone 18 Pro.
What Apple has published clearly is AppleCare One at $19.99 a month for up to three devices, with additional devices at $5.99 a month each, and AppleCare One Family at $49.99 a month for up to six people through Family Sharing, available from September 14, the same day iOS 27 ships. Neither of those figures is a per-device AppleCare+ price, and neither comes with a stated purchase window either.
Three clocks, one start line, different endings
Price protection and the standard return period both run 14 days from the day iPhone 18 Pro arrives, and both are written down with a number attached. The trade-in estimate runs the same 14 days from the same delivery date, for an unrelated reason. AppleCare has neither a number nor a start line in anything Apple has published for this launch, which makes it the odd one out in a launch that otherwise ties several separate clocks to the same delivery day.
What has not been confirmed
- Any deadline for adding AppleCare+ or AppleCare One after buying iPhone 18 Pro.
- Per-device AppleCare+ pricing for iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, iPhone Duo, AirPods 5, Series 12 or Ultra 4.
- Any restocking fee or condition requirement tied to the standard 14-day return period.
- Whether the price-protection window and the return window can both be exercised on the same order.
Delivery is dated Friday, September 18, for most orders placed since pre-orders opened at 12:00 UTC on September 12. Whatever date the phone actually arrives at your door is the date that starts the clocks Apple has published, and the one that will start whichever clocks it eventually publishes for AppleCare too.
