Small Prophets is not receiving a 2026 Apple TV release in the UK because British viewers already had the show through the BBC. Apple’s international launch begins October 7, while its announcement places UK Apple TV availability in 2027.
The exception is a regional rights window, not a cancellation or technical delay. Apple acquired the six-episode comedy from distributor Sphere Abacus after its British run, so its global rollout does not create a simultaneous second UK premiere.

The BBC run changes Apple’s UK window
Mackenzie Crook’s series reached British audiences before Apple announced its international streaming plan. That earlier availability explains why Apple’s October date is explicitly described as excluding the UK instead of being presented as a worldwide launch.

Rights arrangements frequently produce different dates even when one platform markets a show globally. In this case Apple has been unusually clear: subscribers outside the UK get the series in October 2026, while UK Apple TV subscribers wait until 2027.
The international release still follows a weekly plan
Apple will debut the first two episodes on October 7 and release one new episode each Wednesday through November 4. The six-part order follows Michael Sleep as an alchemy experiment offers a possible way to learn what happened to Clea.
Pearce Quigley plays Michael, with Lauren Patel as Kacey, Michael Palin as Brian and Crook as store manager Gordon. The cast and schedule are confirmed even though the exact 2027 UK Apple date remains unannounced.
Skipping 2026 does not mean Britain cannot watch
The important wording is platform-specific. Apple’s delay concerns availability to its own UK subscribers. It should not be rewritten as a claim that the series was unavailable in Britain during 2026.
A later Apple window can give the series another audience without erasing the original broadcaster’s role. Viewers should therefore check the BBC’s current catalog while waiting for Apple to specify its UK date.
The split rollout is a reminder that global streaming announcements can still contain an important territorial exception. The UK is not being overlooked. It is the one market where an earlier broadcaster relationship changes when Apple can add the show to its own service.
That also affects how release guides should describe the premiere. October 7 is accurate for Apple TV outside Britain, while a British reader needs the separate 2027 window and should not be told the series is simply unavailable.
Apple has not supplied the exact UK date, so the responsible update stops at 2027. A month or day would be guesswork until the company revises its regional listing.
