Furious is currently in its first season, so viewers do not need to catch up on any previous seasons. The story follows Alice Black, a former NYPD homicide detective who now works for the FBI, as she searches for a female serial killer whose victims appear to share a disturbing history.
Spoilers ahead for Furious Season 1, Episode 1
The episode opens on Halloween night as a badly injured man attempts to escape from a house. A woman wearing a mask calmly brings him back inside, injects him with drugs and leaves him to die.
The victim is Caleb Easton, the son of billionaire Jay Easton. Police initially believe Caleb died from an overdose, but Alice notices evidence suggesting someone staged the scene.
Alice finds marks showing Caleb had been trapped inside a bathroom. She also discovers that someone cleaned the room with bleach and left behind an iridescent sequin.
The details remind Alice of Adrian Murado, a suspected sex trafficker whose death was also presented as a drug overdose. Although Alice cannot immediately find a direct connection between the men, she becomes convinced that the same woman killed both of them.
Catherine steals a new identity
Meanwhile, the killer attacks a homeless woman named Jinny and steals her belongings. She then calls a domestic violence shelter, pretends to be an abuse survivor and begins living there under Jinny’s identity.
At the shelter, she researches lawyer Oliver Charles and finds a catering job that gives her access to him. She later follows Oliver home after convincing him that she is interested in him.
Alice continues investigating with her former NYPD colleague Danny Kelly and FBI agent Nora Washington. Nora previously worked on Adrian’s trafficking case and gives Alice a flash drive containing old evidence.
Nora also explains the story of Medusa, describing how a victim of violence was transformed into a monster. The conversation reflects the episode’s central question about how trauma, anger and revenge can shape a person.
What does the poppy tattoo reveal?
Alice reviews security footage showing Adrian attacking a young woman who has a poppy tattoo near her waist. A witness previously reported seeing the same tattoo on the woman connected to Caleb’s death.
The episode ends with the killer singing a lullaby to Oliver as he sleeps. The camera reveals the poppy tattoo on her body, confirming that she survived Adrian’s abuse and has started hunting the men connected to her past.
