HBO’s new DC series Lanterns has opened with 9.3 million global viewers across HBO and HBO Max during its first three days, giving the show one of the platform’s biggest series launches.
The 9.3 million figure places Lanterns among the five biggest series premieres in HBO Max history. It also makes Lanterns the biggest HBO Max series premiere for DC Studios so far.
The show attracted 6.6 million viewers in the U.S. during the same three-day period, accounting for around 71% of its global opening audience. Its U.S. debut came close to A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which recorded 6.7 million viewers across three days earlier this year.

Lanterns also opened ahead of several major HBO titles. IT: Welcome to Derry recorded 5.7 million viewers in its first three days, while The Penguin reached 5.3 million U.S. viewers across its four-day opening weekend. Lanterns also surpassed the debut of True Detective: Night Country.
Lanterns gives DC Studios a strong TV debut
Lanterns stars Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan. The story follows the two intergalactic officers as they investigate a murder in the American heartland that connects to a much larger mystery.
The first season includes eight episodes, with new episodes airing Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and streaming simultaneously on HBO Max. The premiere has also remained at No. 1 on HBO Max’s daily Top 10 chart since its debut, adding another strong early sign for the series.
