Lioness Season 3, Episode 4 turns Joe McNamara’s kidnapping into the season’s biggest crisis yet, as her team races across the country trying to find her before Russian operatives can move her beyond U.S. reach.
Titled “Murder Hornets,” Episode 4 arrived on Paramount+ on August 23, 2026. The story continues directly from Joe’s capture while also returning to events from six months earlier to explain why Russia targeted her in the first place.

Joe remains trapped in Russian custody

Joe remains alive after her abduction, but her situation becomes worse with every move the Russians make. Her captors remove her tracker and transport her from an abandoned property to an airplane hangar, keeping the CIA several steps behind.
Kyle leads the rescue effort and eventually reaches the hangar, where the team finds blood and Russian operatives but arrives too late to recover Joe. Kyle kills one of the Russians and forces another to reveal the tail number of the aircraft carrying her.
The plane then shuts off its transponder and flies low enough to make tracking difficult. U.S. officials face an increasingly dangerous decision because allowing Joe to reach another country could turn her kidnapping into a much wider political confrontation.
Murder Hornets explains why Joe became a target
The episode also returns to Joe’s earlier operation against Russian intelligence inside the United States. Her strategy involves identifying compromised assets and using them to work backward toward the people controlling them, creating the operation that becomes known as Treasure.
Joe previously worked with double agent Oleksandra while attempting to expose the larger Russian network. Those flashbacks connect the espionage investigation directly to her kidnapping and show how aggressively both sides have been pushing against each other.
Season 3 has built toward this conflict from its opening episodes. Joe has spent years managing dangerous assignments while trying to protect Neal and their daughters, but the current operation has brought foreign operatives directly into her personal life. Paramount+ describes the season as Joe’s most personal mission yet, with hidden networks and foreign threats reaching into her home.
The ending leaves Joe’s fate uncertain
Kaitlyn eventually prepares Neal for several possible outcomes, including prolonged captivity or Joe being transferred to another country. Meanwhile, the CIA continues tracking the missing aircraft and considers increasingly severe options to prevent the Russians from escaping with her.
Episode 4 ends with Joe still missing, leaving the rescue operation unresolved heading into Episode 5, “The Idiot Army,” on August 30.
