The twist is dangerous because Seraphina is not merely voicing dissatisfaction. She agrees to become a source for Kat, who gives her a number to call whenever she learns something from Harry or another member of the family.
That instruction turns the meeting into an operational betrayal. Seraphina may believe she is purchasing independence, but every call gives Kat more information and gives Seraphina less room to deny where her loyalties have gone.

The danger is that Kat’s price is not symbolic. It converts Seraphina’s anger at Conrad into a continuing obligation to an outsider whose final goal is the dismantling of the whole Harrigan structure.
Seraphina sees Kat as a route to the throne
Seraphina meets Kat behind Conrad’s back and says it is time for him to move on. The meeting gives her an ally outside the Harrigan family at a moment when Conrad and Kevin’s conflict has already weakened the old structure of power.
Her calculation is direct. Kat has the reach and resources Seraphina lacks, while Seraphina has access to the family Kat wants to dismantle. The proposed exchange makes that relationship explicit: influence inside the Harrigan operation for a path to its leadership.
The price is information and revenue
Kat demands half of Harrigan revenue for four years, and Seraphina bargains the term down from five. The haggling matters because it shows that both women understand the alliance as a commercial arrangement, not a moment of shared emotion.
Kat also instructs Seraphina to report conversations with Harry or other relatives through a designated number. That request turns Seraphina into an intelligence channel. She wants a new role in the family, but securing it means helping Kat map the family’s weaknesses from the inside.
The deal makes Seraphina vulnerable too
Kat’s offer gives Seraphina a chance to move against Conrad, but it also gives Kat leverage over her. Once Seraphina shares information, she cannot easily return to the Harrigans as though the meeting never happened. Her ambition may be understandable, yet it ties her fate to an opponent whose goal is bigger than helping her.
