Amazon MGM Studios is developing a new Stargate TV series with WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer. The project marks Amazon’s latest attempt to revive the popular science fiction franchise after canceling an earlier series this year.
Schaeffer is developing the show under her existing television deal with Amazon MGM Studios. A writers’ room has reportedly opened in New York, although Amazon has declined to comment on the project.
Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures will serve as executive producers alongside Schaeffer, who previously created Marvel’s WandaVision and Agatha All Along.

Amazon Is Giving Stargate Another Chance
The new project follows Amazon’s decision to abandon a separate Stargate series developed by Martin Gero, who previously worked on Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis.
Amazon ordered Gero’s series in November 2025, but canceled it in June 2026 after the project completed a 20-week writers’ room and entered pre-production in the United Kingdom.
The studio reportedly had concerns about whether the series would attract viewers unfamiliar with the franchise.
What to Expect From the New Stargate Series
The Stargate franchise began with the 1994 science fiction film directed by Roland Emmerich. Its success led to several television shows, including Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe.
The franchise follows characters who use an ancient alien device to travel between distant planets and explore other worlds.
For now, Amazon has revealed no story details, casting announcements, or release date for Schaeffer’s series. It also remains unclear whether the project will continue the original storyline or introduce a completely new direction.
The series is still in development, with no confirmed premiere window on Prime Video.
