Apple May Have Purchased icloud.com Domain

According to GigaOM, an anonymous source spilled the beans on the purchase, although a quick WHOIS search shows that icloud.com is still listed as a Xcerion property. The domain, however, does redirect to a new CloudMe Web page.

Apple has been rumored for some time to be working on a cloud-based music storage service that will be rolled into MobileMe as a new feature. Unconfirmed reports claim MobileMe subscribers will be able to store content they purchase from the iTunes Store, along with other music in their iTunes Library, online for access from their computer or, iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.

The Mac and iPhone maker has promised changes for its MobileMe service this year, but hasn’t said yet what may be coming.
