iOS 7: Set Default Navigation Directions in Maps


The Maps app in iOS 7 will do its best to get you from place to place with its built-in navigation feature, and it can show you driving or walking directions. Maps assumes you're in your car, but what if you usually walk? No problem; just change the default from driving directions to walking. Read on to learn how.

To change the default turn-by-tun directions style in Apple's Maps app from driving to walking, do this:

  • Tap Settings
  • Tap Maps
  • Scroll down to Preferred Directions
  • Tap Walking

Now your iPhone will dutifully show you walking directions by default, and you can still choose driving directions whenever you happen to be traveling by car. Of course, you'll be walking because that's the healthier choice, right?
