Spotify’s Podcast Subscriptions Leave 100% Fees for Creators

Next week, Spotify is launching a podcast subscription service for its creators and it will let them keep 100% of the revenue.

Spotify has said it was going to test paid subscriptions for podcasters to allow them to offer exclusive content to subscribers, officially announcing that during its February “Stream On” event. But it has not yet provided details on how that will work.

I’m sure Spotify will keep drumming the “no tax” part in contrast to Apple’s 30% fee from Apple Podcast Subscriptions. But in the end it doesn’t matter because the most important people win: The content creators.

  • It’s totally a sustainable business model to give away hosting and bandwidth for free.
I mean just look how well free unlimited hosting worked out for google.

The cost differential between the two is not in anyway comparable.

  • Sure because this is totally not a bait and switch. It’s totally a sustainable business model to give away hosting and bandwidth for free. This isnt desperation. No sir’ee’bob! This isn’t a pitiful grab for podcasters that would otherwise ignore them completely, with the hope of 1 or 2 years later gathering a good number of them to turn the billing tolls on. Oh no way. I mean just look how well free unlimited hosting worked out for google. 🙄

This is pathetic and transparent posturing of a desperate company that has no one with vision or guts to do something actually creative and productive with their business.
