Apple is preparing to unveil a new Mac mini within the coming days, giving the compact desktop its first major update in almost two years as the company gets ready for a busy run of hardware launches before September.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple has tested versions of the new Mac mini with both M5 and M6 chips, although the company has not yet revealed which processor generation will power the final model. The launch could happen before Apple’s expected September 9 iPhone event, where the company is preparing to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro lineup and its first foldable iPhone.
The timing also makes the Mac mini especially notable because it could become the final Apple product announced before Tim Cook steps down as CEO on September 1, with John Ternus expected to take over the company.

Mac mini demand remains unusually high
The current Mac mini has gained popularity among users running AI models locally, while ongoing memory shortages have made some configurations difficult to obtain. Apple’s US online store currently shows delivery estimates ranging from four to ten weeks depending on the configuration.
Apple also changed Mac mini pricing several times this year, removing the $599 256GB model in May before bringing the same storage option back at $799 following broader Mac and iPad price increases in June.
The upcoming model could also highlight Apple’s growing US manufacturing plans, as Foxconn is preparing to assemble Mac mini units at its new Houston facility later this year.
Apple has several other products planned for the coming months, including new AirPods, Apple Watches, an OLED iPad mini, an updated Apple TV, and a new HomePod mini, making the Mac mini one of the first devices in a much larger hardware rollout.
