Apple Hardware Boss Reorganizes Teams To Speed Up New Devices

Apple Johny Srouji chief hardware officer

Johny Srouji is shaking things up inside Apple to get future devices into your hands much faster. Following his recent promotion, the chief hardware officer has started a massive structural shift across his departments. This move aims to closely connect the people building the custom silicon chips with the engineers actually designing the final consumer hardware, bringing everyone onto the exact same page.

According to a new Bloomberg report, the most obvious shift happens in the product design group. This team takes physical ideas and turns them into real devices you can buy. Kate Bergeron, a longtime vice president, is handing over her main design management duties to two of her trusted deputies.

Shelly Goldberg will now manage the design side for Mac computers. Dave Pakula takes charge of the watch, tablet, and earbud lines. Meanwhile, Richard Dinh will keep running the design operations for the smartphone lineup. Bergeron is stepping up to oversee product reliability across all devices and will still manage the physical materials used to build them.

Beyond shifting current teams around, the hardware boss is creating a brand new group focused on ecosystem platforms and partnerships. Matt Costello, who handles home and audio gear, and Kevin Lynch, who leads robotics, will run this new group together and report directly to Srouji.

With John Ternus stepping up as the new top executive this September, these internal changes show a clear focus on fixing internal bottlenecks. By tearing down the walls between the chip makers and the hardware designers, the company hopes to build a much smoother path for its next generation of tech.
