Apple is selling access to a clinical laboratory test for the first time, through its own Health app. The feature is called Labs, it runs through Quest Diagnostics, and it lets a person book and buy a panel of more than 50 biomarkers for $119 at roughly 2,000 Quest locations in the United States.
Apple has never previously facilitated the purchase of a physical medical lab test from inside its software. On-device detection features like ECG and irregular rhythm notifications have existed for years, but those are measurements the Apple Watch takes on its own. Labs is a commerce feature: it connects a person to an outside provider and a blood draw, which is a different category of thing entirely.

What the $119 lab panel actually is
Apple’s press release describes Labs as a way to book and pay for a Quest Diagnostics panel of “over 50 key biomarkers” for “$119” at “approximately 2,000 Quest Diagnostics locations in the U.S.” Apple has not published which specific biomarkers the panel measures, has not said whether insurance can be applied, and has not extended the feature beyond the United States in anything it has published so far.

Why this is a first for Apple’s Health app
Nothing in Apple’s own published history of the Health app describes a prior feature that sells a clinical service. Apple has long published wellness caveats for features like the Vitals app, which it describes as “for wellness purposes only and not for medical use,” and it has offered detection tools like ECG and sleep apnea notifications. Labs is different in kind: it is the first time Apple has put a checkout flow for an outside medical service inside its own software, rather than a measurement its own hardware takes.

Health Age pulls from VO2 max, resting heart rate, sleep and HRV, and lets a person add outside lab values such as A1c and LDL manually. Apple describes it as requiring an Apple Watch and dates it only as “Coming late 2026,” which puts it after Labs in Apple’s own rollout language even though both were announced together.

None of this ships with iOS 27 on Monday. Apple’s own wording for the redesigned Health app is “later this year,” in US English first, and it requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad. The September 9 announcement covers Labs, the Longevity tab and Health Age together, but Apple has been specific that the feature set is a later-2026 release, not a launch-day one.
What Apple has not said
Apple has not given the redesigned Health app an exact release date beyond “later this year,” has not said when Labs or Health Age will reach any country outside the US, and has not published what becomes of lab results once bought, such as how long they remain in the Health app or whether they sync to a doctor’s own records. iOS 27 arrives Monday, September 14, 2026; Apple has not said what, if anything, changes for Labs between now and whenever the redesigned Health app actually ships.
