Apple Releases Revised tvOS 26.2 RC 2 and HomePod 26.2 RC 2

Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini updates look imminent after inventory dips

Apple released new RC versions of tvOS 26.2 and HomePod Software 26.2, pushing the build to 23K53. The update arrived just one day after Apple shipped the first release candidate with build 23K51. This quick turnaround signals that Apple fixed something important before the public rollout.

You can download tvOS 26.2 from the Software Update section on your Apple TV. HomePod Software 26.2 arrives automatically for beta testers. Both updates share the same build because HomePod software is based on tvOS. As Apple updated the RC so soon, it likely addressed a major issue that testers noticed in the earlier build.

New Features in tvOS 26.2

The update continues Apple’s work on profiles. For example, you can create a new Apple TV profile without signing in with an Apple Account. Children’s profiles now get a dedicated kids mode inside the Apple TV app. This mode limits what young viewers see, keeping content age-appropriate.

Apple also included general fixes and performance improvements in today’s 23K53 build. While Apple did not say what changed between the two RC versions, the quick release suggests the earlier build needed attention before next week’s public launch.

Developers and public beta users received yesterday’s RC, but Apple delivered the updated build today to make sure the final version is stable. If no new issues appear in testing, this RC should match the version that ships to everyone when Apple rolls out the full set of 26.2 updates next week.
