Apple is moving closer to its next major software launch. The company just delivered the release candidate version of iPadOS 27.2 to registered developers. This build arrives right alongside other major updates, including the iOS 27.2 build and the new macOS Golden Gate release. Since the previous 27.1 version was held back exclusively for the new folding phones, most tablet users will skip straight to this fresh software version. The release candidate usually represents the final code that will reach the public soon.

The update brings new media features and smart lock controls

This version introduces some noticeable changes to your iPad. You will find a new Apple Music app icon and a better queue system in Apple Podcasts. The Messages app now offers suggested actions, and Apple TV profiles are finally available on tablets.

If you have a smart home setup, you get a few extra perks. The Home app now lets you automate your smart locks. The voice assistant also received some attention. Siri has a new contextual popup window made specifically for the larger screen, and the AI features now support more languages.

Testing the iPadOS 27 release candidate is the final step before the software goes public. If the company does not spot any major bugs, it should send the update to all supported tablets by the end of October. You can prepare by making sure your device is fully backed up and has enough storage for the download.
