Apple Original Films has officially released the first image from Martin Scorsese’s upcoming psychological thriller, What Happens at Night. The highly anticipated movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence as a married American couple navigating a surreal and difficult journey.
With principal photography currently underway across the Czech Republic, this project marks the seventh feature film collaboration between the legendary director and DiCaprio, while Lawrence works with Scorsese for the first time.

The new Scorsese project has a snowy setting for a haunting story
Adapted by Patrick Marber from the 2020 novel by Peter Cameron, the film follows an unnamed husband and wife traveling to an isolated European town to adopt a baby. The wife is battling a severe illness, making the trip physically taxing. Upon arriving, the couple checks into a massive hotel populated by strange characters. As they fight to finalize the adoption, their grasp on reality and their marriage begins to unravel.
The newly released promotional photo sets a distinctly cold and dreamlike tone. It shows DiCaprio and Lawrence walking hand in hand down a snowy road with a vintage taxi idling in the background.
Industry reporters indicate the film leans heavily into psychological horror elements, sharing a similar atmosphere with Scorsese’s previous work on Shutter Island. The news about the new movie has arrived soon after Apple TV dropped the first two episodes of the thriller Imperfect Women, apart from adding Jesse Williams to the cast of The Morning Show season 5.
Expanding the acclaimed cast and production team
Beyond the two lead actors, the movie features a strong supporting cast. Mads Mikkelsen, Patricia Clarkson, Jared Harris, and Welker White have all signed on to the project. The film is a joint production between Apple Studios, Studiocanal, and Scorsese’s own Sikelia Productions. Both DiCaprio and Lawrence are also serving as producers.
Scorsese and Apple recently partnered on Killers of the Flower Moon, which garnered massive critical acclaim. While Apple has not yet announced an official release date for What Happens at Night, the current shooting schedule suggests a potential premiere in late 2026 or early 2027.
