Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4: Five Questions Apple’s Pages Still Do Not Answer

Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 arrived with a genuinely new Health Sensing System and an S11 chip, but several of the most-repeated questions buyers are asking still have no answer on any Apple page. Here are five gaps that keep coming up, and what would actually need to happen for each to close.

Nobody outside Apple has hands-on hardware yet, so nothing below is a test result. It is a list of what Apple itself has, and has not, put in writing as of this week.

Is the 24-hour Series 12 battery figure measured with the new sensing turned on?

Apple’s specification sheet lists Series 12 battery life as “up to 24 hours” for normal use, the same headline figure Series 11 carried, despite heart rate now sampling every five seconds instead of far less often. Apple’s release does not say whether the 24-hour figure was measured with that new sampling rate active, or under the same test conditions used for last year’s rating. A support document spelling out Apple’s battery-test methodology, the kind Apple already publishes for iPhone, would settle whether the new sensing carries any real-world cost. Apple Watch Ultra 4 raises the same question in reverse: its 50-hour normal-use figure is a genuine jump from Ultra 3’s 42 hours, but Apple has not said how much of that gain comes from a larger battery, a more efficient S11 chip, or the same sensing trade-off that applies to Series 12.

Does satellite Emergency SOS on Ultra 4 work the same outside the United States?

Apple’s comparison tool lists Emergency SOS, Messages and Find My via satellite for Ultra 4, and states the two-year free window applies to Ultra 3 and later. Apple’s newsroom material for this year’s watch does not restate which countries those satellite features actually cover. A country-by-country availability page would settle it.

Will Apple Watch SE get any update at all this year?

Apple’s September 9 event introduced Series 12 and Ultra 4 without any mention of a new Apple Watch SE model. Apple Watch SE 3, from 2025, remains “From $249” on Apple’s store with no announced successor. Only a future Apple announcement, or a change to that support page, would settle whether SE 3 continues unchanged through this cycle.

Will Apple ever publish per-configuration prices beyond “From”?

Apple’s marketing pages for Series 12 and Ultra 4 show only the entry “From” price, and even Apple’s own store pages have not surfaced a further price grid outside the ordering flow itself. Apple has, in past years, eventually published fuller price tables once initial demand settled. Whether that happens again this year, and when, is not stated anywhere in the September 9 material. In the meantime, the only reliable way to see a titanium, ceramic, Hermes or cellular price is to build that exact configuration inside Apple’s own online store, which is not the same thing as Apple publishing the figure.

What Apple has not said

  • Whether the 24-hour and 50-hour battery ratings reflect the new heart-rate and HRV sampling rates
  • Which countries get Ultra 4’s satellite features beyond the two-year window
  • Whether Apple Watch SE gets any change this cycle
  • Titanium, ceramic, Hermes and cellular prices for Series 12, and cellular pricing for Ultra 4

None of these gaps are likely to close before Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 reach stores on Friday, September 18, 2026. The most likely source for an answer, once the watches ship, is Apple’s own support site rather than a press release, since that is where Apple has filled in similar gaps for past Apple Watch generations.
