EU Antitrust Chief Says Breaking up Big Tech ‘Doable’, But Warns Against it

EU Executive Vice President Margrethe Vestager

Breaking up Tech Giants ‘Would Tie You You up in Court’, Warns EU Antitrust Chief

“I don’t think it is something that should be introduced in this legislation,” Ms. Vestager told The Information. “And I think one should be very careful with that type of remedy because one should be very sure how it would actually work.” Ms. Vestager also warned that such moves “would tie you up in court for a very, very long time,” and that “it’s important we try these routes first with the platforms.”

Ms. Vestager has been at the forefront of antitrust initiatives against major tech firms. These are expected to continue in the months ahead.
