‘F1: The Movie’ Sequel Teased by Eddy Cue and Formula 1 CEO

Apple looks ready to keep the engines running on its biggest racing film. During its latest Apple TV press day, top executives openly teased a follow-up to ‘F1: The Movie’, which now stands as the platform’s most successful film. While nobody confirmed a sequel, both Apple and Formula 1 leaders gave clear hints that the story is not over. That momentum has pushed talk of an ‘F1: The Movie’ sequel into the spotlight.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eddy Cue and Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali addressed the topic during a live Q&A session at the event. Cue read out a final question from the press while sharing the stage with Domenicali, who had flown in from Europe to attend.

Sequel talks

Cue asked whether another Formula 1 movie would follow the success of the first one. Domenicali answered first and chose his words with care.

“Stay tuned,” he said. “We’re going to tell you something more in the future. Never say never. But we need to digest more the success of this movie because it was something unique. And if you want to think of a new one, it has to be really, very, very good.”

He added that a new film would not arrive soon, but the idea stayed alive.

“If this will happen, it will not be for next year. But maybe next year we’re going to be here and hopefully we have something more to announce then.”

Eddy Cue focuses on live racing

Cue followed with a lighter take that still tied into Apple’s growing F1 push. He pointed to Apple TV’s exclusive US deal to stream Formula 1 races.

“We’ve got 24 F1 movies this year on Apple TV,” he said. “I don’t know the ending, and so it is the best unscripted drama that there could be in the world.”

Those comments kept the door wide open for an ‘F1: The Movie’ sequel. For now, Apple and Formula 1 want fans to stay patient while they plan the next move.
