Racing fans are getting a blast from the past this weekend. Over four decades after a famous rainbow design first hit the track, those iconic Apple computer stripes are making a comeback. Two factory Porsche 963 prototypes will wear the throwback paint job during the upcoming race at Laguna Seca on May 3.
This special look celebrates two massive milestones happening in 2026, bringing a piece of history back to life for a single event.

The eye-catching rainbow design comes straight from the history books. It copies the exact look of a customer-owned 935 K3 model that raced back in 1980 at Le Mans. The German automaker chose to bring back this specific style to mark its 75th year of racing history.
At the same time, the tech giant is celebrating its 50th birthday since launching in 1976. By combining both milestones, the two companies created a perfect tribute. The race track is also located just 80 miles south of the main tech campus in Cupertino, making the California location a great fit.
Two factory cars wear the historic design for one race
Fans will only get one chance to see this colorful design in action. The Porsche Penske Motorsport team is limiting the special wrap to the fourth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The two prototype cars will compete in a race lasting almost three hours.
The racing team already leads the championship standings after winning earlier events at Daytona and Sebring. Even though the cars look different for this weekend, the team remains focused on keeping its top spot. Once the California race finishes, the cars will go back to their normal colors for the rest of the season.
