Instagram is giving schools and students more ways to connect directly on its platform. The popular social network just rolled out some major new features for its School Partnership Program. This expansion allows participating educational institutions to set up private clubs, post exclusive updates, and build secure digital communities for their verified students. These fresh tools aim to make campus communication both easier and safer.

Schools can now share private stories and create dedicated channels

The original program launched last year under its parent company, Meta. Back then, the main goal was to help students report online bullying. The company promised to move reports from partner schools to the front of the line and handle them within 48 hours. Now, the focus is shifting toward community building and local organization.

With the latest update, school admins can set up specific clubs and sports teams on the app. These groups serve as a central spot for sharing news and upcoming events. For instance, a basketball team admin could use a Story to announce tryouts. Administrators can also set up broadcast channels to share important alerts with students, teachers, and parents.

Privacy is a huge part of this update. Only verified students get to view these exclusive Stories and Notes on Instagram. The app teamed up with a third-party service called UNiDAYS to check student identities before letting them join a school group.

Once approved, students get access to a secure directory where they can find their peers. They can also display a special school banner on their profile. To keep things safe, this banner is only visible to other verified students and mutual teen followers. All of these features are officially rolling out today.

This move shows a clear effort to turn the platform into a more useful space for daily student life. By mixing safety tools with campus organization, the app is giving schools a strong reason to build their official digital presence right where teenagers already spend a lot of time.
