Profiles have long been available on Apple TV and other living-room devices. Extending them to iPhone and iPad is especially useful for parents who occasionally hand a device to a child, or for households where several people watch Apple TV content on the same tablet.
What Apple TV app profiles offer
- Separate viewing spaces: each profile can keep its own watch history, watchlist, and recommendations.
- Child-profile controls: a child profile can be configured with age-appropriate TV and movie ratings.
- A choice to ignore profiles: the beta also gives users an option not to see the profile switcher if it is not useful to them.

Profiles do not replace broader parental controls on iPhone or iPad. Screen Time and app-level purchase controls remain relevant, but the new option helps keep viewing recommendations and content ratings appropriate inside the Apple TV app itself.
The feature is still in developer testing, so its final controls and availability can change. But the benefit is clear: children’s programs no longer have to reshape everyone else’s recommendations simply because they watched on a parent’s iPhone or iPad.
