iPhone 11 is the oldest iPhone that Apple’s current iOS 26.x security releases list as supported, and it is also old enough to appear on Apple’s vintage list. Those two facts describe the same device at the same time, and together they draw a cleaner picture of how vintage status and software support are tracked separately than most single examples manage.
The same boundary carries forward: Apple states that iOS 27, arriving Monday, September 14, runs on iPhone 11 and later, plus iPhone SE second generation and later. Nothing here describes a change in that floor; it is simply where Apple currently draws it, on both the outgoing and incoming release.

Where Apple draws the current iOS branch’s floor
Every iOS 26.x security release Apple has published since May 2026 lists the same supported devices: “iPhone 11 and later, iPad Pro 12.9-inch 3rd generation and later, iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation and later, iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 8th generation and later, iPad mini 5th generation and later.” That sentence, repeated release after release, is the actual floor for Apple’s current iOS branch, ahead of anything else Apple has said about it.

iPhone 11 is vintage and still on that branch
Apple’s vintage list names iPhone models from iPhone 6s through iPhone 11 Pro Max, a single continuous range that includes iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. That is the same iPhone 11 named as the floor of the current iOS branch above. Being named on the vintage list does not mean iPhone 11 was recently added to it, and it does not mean it was recently added to the current iOS branch either; both statements simply describe where Apple’s own pages currently place it.

The separate legacy branch, and which devices sit on it
iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR and iPad 7th generation sit outside the iOS 26.x floor entirely and instead receive updates on a separate iOS 18.7.x branch of their own. Apple has continued shipping security updates to that branch through 2026. All four of those devices are older than iPhone 11, which is why the current branch’s floor and the legacy branch’s ceiling sit right next to each other without overlapping.
The same floor line, drawn for iPad
Apple’s current iOS 26.x branch names five iPad floors by generation: iPad Pro 12.9-inch 3rd generation, iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation, iPad Air 3rd generation, iPad 8th generation and iPad mini 5th generation, each “and later.” Apple’s vintage list separately names iPad Air 3rd generation and unspecified iPad Pro models, but does not itemize which iPad Pro generations those are, so a full model-by-model comparison between the two iPad lists is not something Apple’s own pages currently support.
What Apple has not said
Apple has not stated whether iPhone 11 will remain on the current branch through the release after iOS 27, has not published a single chart mapping vintage status against software floors across its own product lines, and has not itemized every iPad Pro generation named on its vintage list. As of Saturday, September 12, 2026, iPhone 18 Pro sits at the opposite end of Apple’s current lineup from iPhone 11, and iOS 27 is due on both devices, and everything between them, in two days.
