iPhone 16 Plus was removed from Apple’s store on September 9, the same day Apple raised the price of every other iPhone it kept. It was the last Plus-size iPhone Apple was still selling new, and Apple has not released a Plus model since 2024. iPhone 16 Plus had carried that second-size, non-Pro option through the past year on its own; now that it is gone, nobody can walk into an Apple Store or open apple.com and buy a larger, non-Pro iPhone body from the current lineup.
Apple has not explained the removal in any release. It sits alongside the discontinuation of iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max as one of two lineup changes Apple made without a word of announcement on the day it introduced iPhone 18 Pro.

iPhone 16 Plus is gone from Apple’s store
Apple’s current US lineup is iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Air, iPhone 17, iPhone 17e and iPhone 16. There is no Plus-size entry anywhere in that list. iPhone 16 Plus, which had continued to sell at a lower price point after iPhone 17 arrived last year, has now been pulled entirely rather than held over again.

The last Plus size Apple was still selling
Apple has not introduced a new Plus model since iPhone 16 Plus in September 2024. When iPhone 17 arrived in 2025, the standard lineup was iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air, with no iPhone 17 Plus at any point. That made iPhone 16 Plus, sold on at a reduced price, the only Plus-size iPhone still available anywhere in Apple’s own store for the past year. Removing it on September 9 means Apple currently sells no larger-screen, non-Pro iPhone body at any price.
What used to come in a Plus
The Plus name covered a specific idea for three straight years: the same chip and camera as the standard iPhone, in a body closer to Pro Max size, at a price below the Pro line. iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 16 Plus each followed that formula. iPhone 16 Plus remains fully supported by iOS 27 and by Apple Intelligence, so anyone who already owns one keeps getting Apple’s newest software. What ended on September 9 is the ability to buy that formula new from Apple, in any size, at any price.
Where the extra screen size went instead
Apple’s current answer to wanting more iPhone than the standard model is iPhone 18 Pro Max, at $1,299, or iPhone Air at $1,099, neither of which shares the Plus formula’s non-Pro chip and price point. There is no non-Pro iPhone above 6.3 inches in Apple’s current lineup. The closest thing to a bigger screen at a lower relative price is iPhone Duo, which starts at $1,999 in October and folds open to a 7.6-inch display, a very different product at a very different price.

What Apple has not said
Apple has not said whether the Plus name returns in the standard iPhone Apple has scheduled for spring, and it has not explained why iPhone 16 Plus was pulled now rather than held over at its reduced price the way older standard models sometimes are. Anyone who already owns an iPhone 16 Plus should check Apple’s trade-in page before the next round of value changes, since every recorded iPhone trade-in figure moved on September 9 and Apple gives no advance notice before the next one moves again.
