The $100 price gap between the two is a screen-and-battery decision, not a camera or chip decision, since both share the A20 Pro and the same three 48MP cameras.

Apple Watch: the case size, and the material that quietly changes it again
Apple Watch Series 12 comes in 42mm and 46mm cases across three materials: aluminum, titanium and ceramic. Apple’s specs page lists the wrist-fit ranges as 130 to 200 mm for every 42mm case and 140 to 245 mm for every 46mm case, so that part of the decision does not change with material. Weight does: a 42mm aluminum GPS model weighs 32.2 g, a 42mm titanium model weighs 36.5 g, and a 42mm ceramic model weighs 41.7 g or 42.8 g depending on finish, roughly 30 percent heavier than aluminum at the same nominal size. Apple Watch Ultra 4 avoids the choice entirely: it ships in one case size, 49mm, at 63.0 to 63.1 g, with a wrist-fit range of 130 to 210 mm.

The mistake: judging size by the model name alone
On Apple Watch Ultra 4 and Series 12, “42mm” or “46mm” describes the case height and width, not the total weight on a wrist, because the material changes the mass by as much as a third at an identical nominal size. On iPhone 18 Pro, the size choice is really a battery and screen-area choice, since the camera system, chip and pixel density are unchanged between the two models. Neither product’s size can be swapped after an order ships, on anything Apple has published, so trying a demo unit before checkout settles more than reading the millimeter figures alone.
What has not been confirmed
Apple has not published a size-exchange policy for either product, a weight figure for Apple Watch Series 12 cellular models in every material and color, or mm-level case dimensions for iPhone Duo beyond the inch figures on its specs page.
