Apple’s iOS 27.2 update makes Siri AI more useful by allowing it to search photos shared through the Messages app. The assistant can now use images attached to conversations as part of its personal context, helping users find pictures without manually scrolling through old messages.
According to Apple’s official release notes, this expanded access is part of several Siri AI improvements introduced with iOS 27.2, which Apple released on October 26.
Siri Can Now Find Photos From Messages
With the new capability, users can describe a photo they received and ask Siri to find it. For example, someone looking for a restaurant menu sent by a friend can ask Siri to locate the image instead of searching through an entire conversation.

The improvement builds on Siri’s personal context capabilities, which already allow the assistant to retrieve information from supported apps.
Siri AI can now draw information from several additional sources:
- Messages attachments: Search for relevant photos shared in conversations.
- Calendar: Reference event attendees when answering questions.
- Voicemail: Use information from voicemail messages.
- Safari: Find relevant information through browsing history and Reading List.
Apple also introduced conversation memory in iOS 27.2, allowing Siri to recall information from earlier interactions.
Compatibility and Privacy Controls
The new Messages photo-search capability requires Siri AI, which remains in beta.
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Software | iOS 27.2 or later |
| Supported iPhones | iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 16 or later |
| Availability | Supported Siri AI languages and regions |
| Privacy controls | Excluded Apps in Siri settings |
Users can also manage which apps Siri can access through the new Excluded Apps setting.
Apple has not detailed exactly how Siri processes image attachments or whether every image type is searchable. However, the expanded personal context support should make locating previously shared photos easier for users who regularly exchange images through Messages.
