The recurring complaint that storage costs Australian buyers proportionally more than it costs American ones holds up once Apple’s own price grids are set side by side, tier for tier, each read only in its own currency.
Neither figure is converted from the other here. Both are Apple’s own published prices for iPhone 18 Pro in its own storefront, and what is being compared is the shape of each country’s own price ladder, not what one currency is worth against the other.

The same move, two different ratios
In the US, moving from the entry iPhone 18 Pro to the top 2TB tier takes the price from $1,199 to $2,399, an increase of $1,200 that lands the top tier at almost exactly double the entry price. In Australia, the same move takes the price from A$2,099 to A$4,499, an increase of A$2,400 that lands the top tier at more than double the entry price. The Australian ladder climbs proportionally further from bottom to top than the American one does, even though both are Apple’s own numbers for the identical phone.

The full Australian range, tier by tier
The pattern holds at every step, not just at the two ends. Apple’s Australian store lists iPhone 18 Pro at A$2,099, A$2,499, A$3,299 and A$4,499 across the four storage tiers, and iPhone 18 Pro Max at A$2,299, A$2,699, A$3,499 and A$4,699. Each step up in storage adds a larger amount than the step before it, on both models, which is part of why the top tier ends up proportionally further from the entry price than the same climb does in the US.
None of the underlying phone changes between tiers. Storage aside, a 256GB and a 2TB iPhone 18 Pro share the same A20 Pro chip, the same camera system and the same screen, in Australia exactly as everywhere else Apple sells the phone.
Pro Max shows a smaller version of the same gap
iPhone 18 Pro Max narrows the gap between the two markets without closing it. Its US price runs from $1,299 to $2,499, an increase of about 92 percent from entry to top. Its Australian price runs from A$2,299 to A$4,699, an increase of about 104 percent. The Pro Max climbs less steeply than the Pro does in both countries, but Australia is still the steeper of the two on the larger phone as well as the smaller one.
That consistency across both models is part of why the complaint holds up as more than a one-off reading of a single price list. The same shape repeats whether the comparison starts from the 6.3-inch Pro or the 6.9-inch Pro Max.

- Any explanation for why storage steps cost proportionally more in Australia than in the US.
- A per-model Australian trade-in table. Apple names a US range and a UK figure, and no equivalent number for Australia.
- Any financing terms for iPhone 18 Pro on the Australian store, unlike the UK, Japan, Canada and India pages.
