Buried in Appleās September 9 announcement is the only iPhone charging claim this year written in hours rather than percentages: five minutes on a cable gives the iPhone 18 Pro Max about seven hours of video playback. Apple published no equivalent figure for the 6.3-inch iPhone 18 Pro, and none for wireless charging on either model.
Seven hours is about 16 percent of the Pro Max 45-hour video playback rating, from a charge shorter than a coffee queue. It is also the single most useful charging number Apple published, and it covers one of the two phones going on pre-order today.

The only iPhone claim written in hours
Every other charging line Apple publishes for these phones is a percentage of the battery. This one is a quantity of use, which is what people actually want before a flight or a commute, and it is the one figure that connects the charging claims to the battery ratings.

It connects them loosely, though. Because the 50 percent claims are in percent and the five-minute claim is in hours, the two cannot be checked against each other, and Apple publishes no conversion between percentage of charge and hours of anything. Nothing for the 6.3-inch Pro, and nothing wireless
The smaller phone is rated at 36 hours of video playback against the Pro Max at 45, and the two share both 50 percent charging claims, so the difference between them on a five-minute top-up is unpublished rather than known. Anyone choosing between the two sizes on short-charge behaviour has one number for one model.
The wireless side is emptier still. MagSafe and Qi2 both top out at 25W, and the only published wireless figure is 50 percent in 30 minutes with a 35W adapter. Apple has published no five-minute, ten-minute or fifteen-minute wireless figure for any 2026 iPhone.

The watches get two short-charge figures each, both in hours of use, and the Apple Watch Ultra 4 gets an 18-hour figure for a quarter of an hour on the charger. AirPods 5 get an hour of listening from five minutes. Against that, one figure for one iPhone looks like an omission rather than a house style.

- Which adapter the Pro Max five-minute claim was measured with, or whether the 60W adapter is required.
- What five minutes buys in typical use, streamed video, gaming or navigation rather than local playback.
- Any short-charge figure over MagSafe or Qi2 for either model.
- The starting state of charge for the five-minute test, or the temperature it ran at.
- Battery capacity in milliamp hours, which would let anyone convert percentages into hours.
Pre-orders for both models open today, Saturday, September 12, at 5 a.m. PT, which is 12:00 UTC, and the phones reach stores on Friday, September 18. Until then the seven-hour figure is a claim about one model, made by the company selling it, with the adapter sold separately and still unpriced.
