Apple rates iPhone Duo for up to 44 hours of video playback on its 5.4-inch outer display and up to 31 hours on its 7.6-inch inner display, according to Apple’s tech specs. The $1,999 foldable, which Apple says will be available starting on October 23, 2026, reaches 50% in around 20 minutes only with a 60W-capable adapter that is sold separately.

That split matters more on the Duo than on any other iPhone. Most buyers will open the phone for reading, video and multitasking, which is exactly when the battery figures drop.
Battery life by display
| Test | Outer display | Inner display |
|---|---|---|
| Video playback | Up to 44 hours | Up to 31 hours |
| Video playback (streamed) | Up to 37 hours | Up to 26 hours |
Apple’s typical use figure is up to 24 hours. A footnote on the spec page explains that it is “based on equal usage between inner and outer displays,” so someone who keeps the Duo open most of the day should not expect the full 24.

Apple ran the typical use test in August 2026 on preproduction units with a usage profile “based on the median usage values across iPhone users,” mixing messaging, photos, music, social media, video streaming, games, web browsing and navigation.
The video tests ran in July 2026. Video playback used a repeated 2-hour 23-minute HDR movie, and the streamed test used a repeated 3-hour 1-minute HDR movie, both purchased from the iTunes Store. Auto-Brightness and True Tone were turned off, with Bluetooth headphones paired.
How that compares with iPhone 18 Pro
| Model | Video playback | Video playback (streamed) | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone Duo, outer display | Up to 44 hours | Up to 37 hours | Up to 24 hours (equal use of both displays) |
| iPhone Duo, inner display | Up to 31 hours | Up to 26 hours | Up to 24 hours (equal use of both displays) |
| iPhone 18 Pro | Up to 36 hours | Up to 33 hours | Up to 24 hours |
| iPhone 18 Pro Max | Up to 45 hours | Up to 40 hours | Up to 30 hours |
Used closed, the Duo’s video figures sit above iPhone 18 Pro and just under iPhone 18 Pro Max. Used open, they fall below both. Apple’s store describes iPhone 18 Pro as having “the ultimate battery life, performance, and camera of any iPhone.”
Two batteries instead of one
The Duo is the first iPhone with two batteries. Apple’s spec sheet lists “Dual built-in rechargeable lithium-ion batteries,” where the 18 Pro models have a single built-in battery.
On its product page, Apple says “an iPhone-first dual-battery system, along with an internal space-saving eSIM design,” maximizes physical space for battery capacity, and credits the C2 modem with “groundbreaking efficiency.” Its FAQ adds that the dual-battery architecture “intelligently charges your system.” Apple does not list capacities for either battery.
Charging speeds
| Charging method | iPhone Duo | iPhone 18 Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Wired fast charge | Up to 50% in around 20 minutes, 60W-capable adapter or higher | Up to 50% in around 15 minutes, 60W-capable adapter or higher with Adjustable Voltage Supply |
| MagSafe Charger | Up to 50% in around 30 minutes, 35W adapter or higher | Up to 50% in 30 minutes, 35W adapter or higher |
| Wireless maximum | MagSafe and Qi2 up to 25W | MagSafe and Qi2 up to 25W |
Wired fast charging is slower on the Duo, but the adapter rules are looser. Apple’s Duo footnote calls for a “60W-capable (or higher) USB-C cable and USB PD power adapters.” The iPhone 18 Pro footnote specifically requires USB PD 3.1 (or better) adapters with Adjustable Voltage Supply (AVS).
Apple measured the Duo’s fast-charge times with drained units “in open configuration,” starting from the appearance of the Apple logo. Testing used Apple’s 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max (Model A3351) and either the USB-C Charge Cable or Apple MagSafe Chargers (1-meter Model A3502 and 2-meter Model A3503).
What is in the box
The box contains the iPhone and a USB-C Charge Cable (1 m). There is no power adapter, and Apple lists both the 60W-capable adapter and the MagSafe Charger as available separately. If you plan to buy one with your iPhone Duo pre-order, check that it is rated for 60W or higher, or the 20-minute figure will not apply.
Apple’s own iPhone Duo Folio and iPhone Duo Case are both compatible with MagSafe, Qi2 25W and Qi-certified chargers, according to Apple’s iPhone Duo pre-order announcement, so either case can stay on during wireless charging.
Battery habits that still apply
- Optimized Battery Charging is supported. Apple says it learns your charging habits and delays the final charge, from 80% to 100%, until you are likely to need it.
- StandBy runs on either display, and Apple says you can use it “even when you aren’t charging iPhone Duo.”
- Apple’s product page notes that battery life and charge cycles vary by use and settings, and that the battery has limited recharge cycles.
