On the Mac there is only one cutoff. Every Mac family on Apple’s macOS 27 Golden Gate compatibility list also appears on Apple’s Apple Intelligence device list, so a Mac that can install Monday’s update can also run the intelligence features that come with it.
That is not true of the iPhone, where iOS 27 covers 32 named models plus the iPhone SE line and Apple Intelligence covers 15. The Mac has a second tier above the first, but it is a tier for two specific features rather than a second compatibility wall.

Why the iPhone has a second wall and the Mac does not
The iOS 27 list runs back to the iPhone 11 and the iPhone SE second generation, and Apple’s requirement line for Apple Intelligence reads “all iPhone 16 models and later, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max”. Everything from the iPhone 11 through the iPhone 15 Plus takes Monday’s iOS 27 update without Apple Intelligence.
Nothing equivalent exists on the Mac list, because both Mac lists start at Apple silicon. The practical result is that the question Mac owners ask about Apple Intelligence has the same answer as the question about the update itself.
The tier above, and what it is for
Apple does describe a higher tier, and it gates two features rather than a feature set: Siri voice customization, which covers pitch, speed, tone and accent, and improved on-device Dictation. On the Mac the requirement is “M3 or later” with 12GB or more of unified memory.
The same tier reads differently on every other platform Apple lists, which is worth keeping straight before Monday.

What this means if you are updating or buying a Mac
If your Mac is on Apple’s macOS 27 list, the intelligence features are not a separate question. Siri AI arrives in beta in English first, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish dated October.
The Mac also has the one regional advantage in the family. Apple’s exclusion names iOS, iPadOS and watchOS, so Siri AI is available on the Mac in the EU when the system is set to a supported language, and on Apple Vision Pro on the same terms.
Buyers should also note that the six iPhones in the top tier are all 2026 or 2025 models, a list that follows the A20 Pro and A19 Pro generations rather than any published memory figure. The iPhone 18 Pro sits at the top of it.
What Apple has not said
- Why the iPad tier requires M4 while the Mac tier requires M3, when both ask for 12GB.
- Any per-model unified memory figure on the macOS 27 page or the Apple Intelligence page.
- Anything at all about Intel Macs, which appear on neither list and in no published statement.
- A release time on September 14, a download size, or a free-space requirement.
- Which Siri AI dependent features go dark in the EU on the platforms that are excluded.
Apple has also not published a security content document for the 27 releases. Its security index still ends with iOS 26.6.2 and iPadOS 26.6.2, dated September 8, the day before the event.
macOS 27 Golden Gate is dated Monday, September 14, free. The compatibility list on Apple’s macOS page is the only one Apple has published, and it has not changed since September 9.
