New Spyware Alerts Make iOS 26.2 the Most Important Update This Month

Apple is preparing to roll out iOS 26.2, and the update now looks very close. The company has already pushed a second release candidate to testers, so you can expect the public version to appear in the Software Update screen very soon.

At the same time, Apple and Google have started sending new cyber threat notifications to users around the world. These alerts focus on mercenary spyware attacks that target a small group of people with highly advanced tools.

According to Forbes, these warnings relate to commercial spyware that uses fresh vulnerabilities in both iOS and Android to break into specific devices.

“Such attacks are vastly more complex than regular cybercriminal activity and consumer malware,” Apple says, “as mercenary spyware attackers apply exceptional resources to target a very small number of specific individuals and their devices.”

iOS 26.2 Matters for Your Security

These attacks hit only a very small number of users. However, each successful exploit still opens a hole in the protections that guard your data. Because of that, you should install the next iPhone update as soon as it appears in Settings > General > Software Update.

Right now, many people still ask whether they should stay on iOS 18 or move to iOS 26. The answer is simple. If your iPhone supports iOS 26 and you do not have a strong reason to wait, you should upgrade.

Apple still patches iOS 18, but it does not match the security level of iOS 26. On top of that, iOS 26 also adds new anti-scam and anti-fraud tools that older versions lack.

With iOS 26.2, Apple plans to introduce extra AirDrop safeguards, refreshed emergency alerts, and a long list of security fixes. Some of these vulnerabilities will likely count as critical issues.

You should expect iOS 26.2 to arrive within the next few days. And when it does, you should update your iPhone without delay.
