New Studio Display Firmware 26.3 Update Arrives for Pre-Order Models

Apple has pushed Studio Display Firmware 26.3 (build 23D8128) for its upcoming Studio Display lineup, including the new Studio Display and the new Studio Display XDR that arrive on March 11.

This firmware is only for the new Studio Display options, so you will not see it on the older Studio Display model.

If you already placed a pre-order, this update matters because the display installs firmware through a connected Mac, and you will likely want the latest build ready on day one, especially with brand-new hardware and new connectivity features in the lineup.

How to update Studio Display firmware

  • Connect the Studio Display to your Mac.
  • Open System Settings.
  • Go to General.
  • Select Software Update.
  • If you see Studio Display Firmware 26.3 (23D8128), install it and keep the display connected until the update finishes.

Changes in Studio Display Firmware 26.3

Apple has not shared detailed public release notes for this specific build, but reporting around the update describes it as a firmware release tied to the new Studio Display models, along with general bug fixes and compatibility support for the new displays.

Pre-orders for the new Studio Display lineup start at $1,599, and availability begins March 11.

If you spot any new behavior after installing Firmware 26.3, tell us what changed for you in the comments.

  • I already updated my M5 14″ MBP to 26.3.1 days before picking up my 2026 Studio Display. I have been having problems of the display NOT actually lighting up when I plugged it to my MBP. System Information app lists it under Thunderbolt/USB4 but the display does not get listed under Graphics/Displays section. The symptoms boiled down to a stupidly looooong cold boot-up for the display unit. This morning on one attempt, it took 10 minutes with the cable plugged in until the display finally lights up. I was on the chat with Apple Support and basically forgot I had the display plugged in. So without doing anything further in that 10 minutes, the display finally lit up.

Then the Studio Display Firmware update 26.3 (Build 23D8128) appeared on my mac as an available update late this morning March 13. I installed the update then shut down my MBP, unplugged the display; turn off the power bar to cut the power from the display. Let it sit unpowered for over 1 hour (lunch break!). An hour later, turned the power bar back on to feed power to the Display. Something new happened!! The display showed a brief animation of 3 dots suggesting boot-up in progress then moments later, a graphic replaced the 3 dots illustrating to plug in the thunderbolt cable. the TB cable was already plugged into the back (the upstream port) of the display, so I then plugged the other end to my MBP. Voila, my desktop showed up on the Studio Display instantly like it always should!!
