Microsoft plans to stop releasing OneDrive updates for iPhones and iPads that remain on iOS 18 or iPadOS 18. The change affects iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max because those models cannot move to iOS 26 or iOS 27.

Microsoft added the notice to the OneDrive App Store listing, telling users that support for iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 will be dropped soon. It recommends installing iOS or iPadOS 26 or 27 to keep receiving the latest app version.

The seventh-generation iPad is affected for the same reason on the tablet side. Apple continues to issue some security updates for these devices on the older branch, as MacObserver’s guide to Apple’s software-support states explains, but that does not require third-party developers to maintain app compatibility.

What happens to existing installations

An end to updates does not necessarily make an installed copy of OneDrive stop opening immediately. It means affected devices will no longer receive new features, bug fixes or compatibility updates after Microsoft raises the app’s minimum operating-system requirement.

Users should make sure important files are fully synchronized and accessible through another device or the web before the cutoff. Removing the app after its requirements change could also make reinstalling the same compatible version difficult.

Microsoft has not put a specific public date on the App Store notice. Owners can check their software version under Settings > General > About and follow the listing for the eventual minimum-requirement change.

Organizations managing work accounts should also check their own retention and device policies before moving files or replacing affected phones.
