Rivian has released a dedicated Apple Watch app for its R1S and R1T electric vehicles, giving drivers quick access to key controls directly from their wrist. The update focuses on convenience, allowing you to manage core vehicle functions without reaching for your phone.
The new Apple Watch experience builds on Rivian’s connected ecosystem and expands how drivers interact with their vehicles throughout the day. With just a glance or a quick tap, you can now check your vehicle status and adjust settings in real time.
According to Rivian, the app is designed to deliver “convenient features on their wrist,” making everyday tasks faster and easier for drivers.
Key Features on Apple Watch
The Apple Watch app allows you to customize up to four one-tap controls for quick access. You can manage:
- Lock or unlock doors
- Open or close windows
- Open the front trunk
- Open the rear trunk
- Sound the vehicle alarm
In addition, you can rotate the Digital Crown on your Apple Watch to adjust cabin temperature and set your battery charging target directly from the app. This makes climate and charging control simple while you are away from the vehicle.
Rivian also added an Apple Watch complication, so you can see your vehicle’s battery charge level directly on your watch face without opening the app.
Apple Wallet Car Key Support
Rivian recently introduced Apple Wallet car key support for second-generation R1S and R1T models. The feature uses Ultra Wideband technology for passive entry.
You can approach the vehicle, open the door, and start driving with your iPhone in your pocket or your Apple Watch on your wrist.
Passive entry requires:
- iPhone 11 or newer, excluding iPhone SE and iPhone 16e
- Apple Watch Series 6 or newer
For first-generation R1S and R1T models, digital key functionality remains limited.
“With the app open, you’re ready to drive,” says Rivian.
Drivers of these models can lock or unlock the vehicle using the lock button inside the app.
To get started, install the latest version of the Rivian app on your iPhone from the App Store, and the Apple Watch app will install automatically.
