tvOS 26.4 Release Candidate Released: Here Is Everything To Know

tvOS 26.4 beta 1 now available for Apple TV developers

Apple has seeded the tvOS 26.4 Release Candidate to developers and public beta testers. This version is expected to be the final build before the update rolls out to all Apple TV users, provided no significant bugs are found during this testing phase. The update has arrived alongside the Release Candidate versions of iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, macOS 26.4, and watchOS 26.4 upgrades.

How to update

If you are already running the tvOS 26.4 beta, you can update your Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD by following these steps:

  1. Open Settings on your Apple TV
  2. Select System
  3. Tap Software Updates
  4. Select Software Update and download the tvOS 26.4 Release Candidate

All the changes

The tvOS 26.4 update focuses on cleaning up the home theater interface and improving audio reliability:

  • iTunes apps phase-out: Apple has officially removed the legacy iTunes Movies and iTunes TV Shows apps from the Home Screen, redirecting all purchase and rental traffic to the unified Apple TV app.
  • Continuous audio connection: A new toggle in the HDMI output settings is designed to help prevent audio dropouts or popping sounds when switching between different audio formats on external soundbars and receivers.
  • Bug fixes: Resolved an issue where the Apple TV might fail to authorize properly signed apps immediately after installation.
  • Current build number: 23L240, which replaces the earlier beta 4 build 23L5234a.

Apple has also released a corresponding HomePod Software 26.4 Release Candidate (build 23L240) to go along with this update, ensuring better connectivity between the two devices.

With the Release Candidate now out, the public launch of tvOS 26.4 will likely arrive early next week.
