Volvo just started rolling out a new software update for its EX90 models, bringing a major upgrade to the in-car listening experience. The automaker is officially adding Spatial Audio support to CarPlay, giving drivers and passengers a much richer sound environment for their daily commutes. This new audio addition is powered by Dolby Atmos, creating an immersive, three-dimensional soundstage right inside the vehicle cabin.
Volvo requires a premium audio system to access the new software
The automaker originally shared its plans to support spatial audio back in July, mentioning the EX60, EX90, and ES90 models. Now, it is finally pushing that feature out to the EX90 electric SUV.
To actually use the new audio feature, the car must have the optional Bowers and Wilkins sound system installed. Standard audio setups will not support the new Dolby Atmos capabilities.

If you own an EX90 with the right hardware, the software update will enable the upgraded sound profile automatically. This shows how Apple is working closely with car makers to bring its premium media features into more vehicles.
At the moment, only the EX90 is seeing the active software push. The EX60 and ES90 models should follow soon, giving more drivers a massive upgrade to their daily listening habits.
