Apple has redesigned the Health app for iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, adding a Longevity tab that tracks seven categories of long-term data, a Health Age comparison, an Insights tab with real-time summaries, and camera-based movement evaluations. The new app runs on Apple Intelligence devices and launches in US English first.

The redesign was announced alongside the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, and much of it depends on data from the watch. Dr. Sumbul Desai, Apple’s vice president of Health and Fitness, said: ā€œBy combining breakthrough sensing on Apple Watch with Apple Intelligence in the Health app, we’re able to translate complex biometric data into clear guidance for users.ā€

Longevity tab: seven categories in one place

The Longevity tab analyzes long-term data across seven areas, pulling from iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods, clinical records and third-party apps.

Health Age lives here too. It shows how your metrics track against your chronological age using VO2 max, resting heart rate, sleep and heart rate variability from Apple Watch, and you can add lab values such as A1c and LDL. Health Age requires an Apple Watch.

Insights tab and the new For You section

The Insights tab replaces static charts with real-time summaries covering heart, sleep, readiness, fitness, vitals and cycle tracking. A For You section surfaces items Apple thinks are relevant to you.

The readiness summary connects to the new Readiness score on Series 12 and Ultra 4, a daily 0 to 10 rating built from recent activity, training load, vitals and sleep. Apple has not said whether Readiness reaches older watches.

Movement evaluations, Labs and GymKit

The app adds movement evaluations for flexibility, strength, balance, movement mechanics and VO2 max, using the iPhone camera and Apple Watch. Apple says they were developed with clinicians and run entirely on device, with no video recorded, stored or shared. VO2 max testing needs Apple Watch, AirPods Pro 3 or a third-party heart rate device.

A new Labs feature lets users book and buy a panel of more than 50 biomarkers for $119 at about 2,000 Quest Diagnostics locations in the US. GymKit gains AirPods Pro 3 heart rate syncing with compatible gym equipment and improved treadmill accuracy through machine learning.

Availability and requirements

The redesigned Health app arrives with iOS 27 on September 14 on Apple Intelligence devices, in US English first, with more languages to follow. Some features need users to be 18 or over, and Apple notes the Vitals app is for wellness rather than medical use.

Apple has not published a full list of which features need which Apple Watch model, or when other languages and regions will get the new app. The Series 12 and Ultra 4, which supply the new Health Sensing System data, ship on September 18. See our event recap for everything else announced.
