Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 add a set of on-watch audio features Apple calls Audio Intelligence: Live Rewind, which shows the previous 15 seconds of a conversation as text, Siri Recap conversation summaries, Sound Recognition alerts and Shazam music detection. All of it runs on the new S11 chip.
Keynote coverage described a day-summary feature built on ambient sensing with no audio stored, and Apple’s press release now explains the mechanism. The S11 includes a Secure Exclave, a hardware-isolated compartment used for on-device audio processing with immediate deletion, and that is where these features live.
The four Audio Intelligence features
- Sound Recognition: alerts for sirens, alarms, doorbells and baby cries
- Live Rewind: the previous 15 seconds of conversation shown as text on the watch
- Siri Recap: summaries of conversations
- Shazam: music detection on the watch
Live Rewind is the one with no obvious precedent. It is aimed at the moment you missed what someone just said and want to read it back rather than ask them to repeat it. Apple has not said how the 15-second window is triggered or whether it can be extended.

Siri Recap goes further, producing summaries of conversations. Apple has not published how long a conversation it can cover, where summaries are stored or whether they sync to iPhone.
What the Secure Exclave does
Apple describes the Secure Exclave as a hardware-isolated compartment on the S11 for on-device audio processing, with immediate deletion. That is the technical basis for the keynote’s claim that no audio is stored: the processing produces text or an alert, and the audio is discarded on the chip.
Because Apple ties the feature to the S11, it is listed for Series 12 and Ultra 4 only. Apple has not said whether any Audio Intelligence features reach Series 11 or earlier through watchOS 27, which arrives September 14.

The gaps matter because the feature set overlaps with Siri AI, which launches in beta in English on watchOS 27 with other languages following in October. Apple has not said whether Siri Recap depends on that beta or runs independently on the Secure Exclave.
On the iPhone side, AirPods 5 add hands-free Siri AI and Live Translation, but Apple has not described any link between the AirPods features and the watch’s Audio Intelligence.
