Apple Intelligence runs on 15 iPhone models, three iPad lines, seven Mac families, Apple Vision Pro with M2 or later, and three tiers of Apple Watch, according to the device list on Apple’s Apple Intelligence page. The Apple Watch entry has a condition the others do not: it works only when the watch is paired with an Apple Intelligence iPhone.

The list matters more than usual this week, because the software that carries the new Siri AI features arrives on September 14 across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27 and visionOS 27. Getting the update does not mean getting the features.

The second, shorter list: voice customization and better Dictation

Feature groupDevices Apple lists
Siri voice customization (pitch, speed, tone, accent) and improved on-device DictationiPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Duo, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone Air, iPad (M4 or later) with 12GB or more unified memory, Mac (M3 or later) with 12GB or more unified memory, Apple Vision Pro (M5)

Apple’s footnotes call this the advanced on-device model. It is the only place in the Apple Intelligence documentation where a unified memory figure appears, and it rules out the M1 to M3 iPads and M1 to M2 Macs that qualify for everything else.

Apple Watch is the one that needs a phone

Apple’s OS page footnote makes the Apple Watch entry conditional: Series 9 and later, Ultra 2 and later and SE 3 qualify when paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone. The watch is not doing the work alone.

Siri AI on watchOS 27 also lags the other platforms. Apple said in June that Siri AI would be available for developer testing “in a future watchOS 27 beta” rather than at the start. Our Apple Watch Series 12 guide covers which of the new health features need the phone as well.

Where it does not work, and what costs extra

Apple’s pages say Siri AI will not be available initially in the EU on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS. Apple’s June release said Mac and Apple Vision Pro users in the EU can use it when set to a supported language, so in the EU the Mac is the more capable device this month.

Apple’s June release also said Siri AI and the other new Apple Intelligence features will not be available in China while Apple works through regulatory requirements. Separately, Apple says server-backed features are subject to daily usage limits, that increased access comes with most iCloud+ plans, and that expanded access will be available for a fee in the future.

What Apple has not said

  • Whether older Apple Intelligence devices will ever get the advanced on-device model features.
  • Any Apple TV or HomePod support: tvOS is not among the platforms Apple lists for the Siri AI beta.
  • A date for Siri AI on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch in the EU, or for approval in China.
  • The size of the daily usage limits, or how much extra headroom an iCloud+ plan buys.
  • The price or timing of the paid expanded-access tier.
  • Which Apple Watch models can run the watchOS 27 Siri AI beta, and when.

The software lands as a free update on Monday, September 14. If your device is on the list above, Siri AI arrives in beta in English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish following in October according to Apple’s press release. Our iOS 27 release day guide and the Surprise and shine recap cover what else ships that day.
