Apple’s iPhone range now spans six phones with confirmed specifications: the new iPhone 18 Pro at $1,199 and iPhone 18 Pro Max at $1,299, plus the 2025 iPhone 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, iPhone 17 and iPhone Air. Screen sizes run from 6.3 to 6.9 inches, video playback from 27 to 45 hours, and top storage from 512GB to 2TB.
Today’s event added only the two Pro models and the foldable iPhone Duo, which is due in October and has no published spec sheet yet. There was no standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e or iPhone Air 2, as our explainer on the missing iPhone 18 covers, and Apple has not said which older models stay on sale, so this comparison sticks to phones with published specifications.

What separates the iPhone 18 Pro from the rest
The two new phones are the only ones with the A20 Pro, Apple’s first 2nm chip, and the only ones with the variable aperture main camera, f/1.48 to f/4. They also carry the N1 chip with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, the C2 modem and the smaller Dynamic Island.

They lead on battery too. The 18 Pro’s 36 hours of video playback beats the 17 Pro by three hours and the iPhone 17 by six, and the 18 Pro Max’s 45 hours is six more than the 17 Pro Max. Both charge to 50 percent in about 15 minutes on a cable, against 20 minutes for the 17 Pro.
The 2TB tier is now on both Pro sizes, where last year only the 17 Pro Max went that high. Apple has not published the prices of the 512GB, 1TB and 2TB iPhone 18 Pro models.
Where the 2025 phones still fit
The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max keep the most complete confirmed camera spec on this list, with a 48MP main, a 48MP Ultra Wide and a 48MP 4x telephoto. Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro release does not detail its telephoto lens and announced no changes to the Ultra Wide or front camera, so the 17 Pro’s numbers are the best guide to those slots on the new phone.
The iPhone 17 is the value option at a reported $799, with the same 6.3-inch screen size as the 18 Pro and up to 30 hours of playback. The iPhone Air is the design pick at 5.64 mm and 165 grams, with a 6.5-inch screen but a single rear camera and the shortest battery rating here.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max go on pre-order Saturday, September 12 at 5 a.m. PT and ship Friday, September 18. Apple has not said whether the 2025 phones drop in price, what the iPhone Duo’s specifications are, or when a standard iPhone 18 arrives.
