Reported figures put the cells at 4,288 mAh for the 18 Pro and 5,567 mAh for the 18 Pro Max, both for the eSIM-only versions, and Apple has not confirmed either number.
The two kinds of figures answer different questions. Capacity says how much charge the battery stores; Apple’s ratings say how long the phone runs on it, which also depends on the A20 Pro, the C2 modem and the display. Here is how the reported capacities line up with Apple’s published numbers.

Where the mAh figures come from
The 4,288 mAh and 5,567 mAh numbers come from third-party spec listings, not from Apple, and they are attached to the eSIM-only versions of each phone. That qualifier matters because Apple’s own video playback ratings carry the same note: 36 and 45 hours are quoted for the eSIM-only models sold in the United States, Canada, Japan, Mexico, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Apple has not published ratings for the versions with a SIM tray sold elsewhere, and no reported capacity exists for them either. Outside that list, Apple’s figures are an upper bound with no stated adjustment.
Why Apple rates batteries in hours
A milliampere-hour figure describes the cell and nothing else. How long a phone runs is capacity divided by draw, and draw is where Apple’s changes live this year: the A20 Pro is Apple’s first 2-nanometer chip, the C2 modem uses 15 percent less energy than the C1X, and a new vapor chamber attached directly to the chip gives about three times the cooling of the previous design. Identical batteries behind different chips post different hours, which is why Apple quotes the result rather than the input.
Apple publishes three ratings this year. Video playback (36 and 45 hours) is the traditional headline. Streamed video (33 and 40 hours) adds the cost of a network connection. Typical use (24 and 30 hours) is a newer metric that Apple describes as use on a full charge; Apple has not detailed the test behind it. Apple also says the 18 Pro roughly matches last year’s 17 Pro Max, which was rated at 39 hours of video playback, so that claim is best read against the typical-use figure rather than the video one. Capacity vs hours, generation by generation
Apple has never published capacity for previous Pro models either, so the only consistent comparison across generations is its video playback rating.

Both new phones are heavier than their predecessors, by 5 g on the Pro and 16 g on the Pro Max, at the same 8.75 mm thickness. Apple has not said how much of that is battery, but the video ratings moved by 3 hours and 6 hours respectively.
What the reported capacity means at the wall
Apple’s charging claims are the practical side of the capacity question. With a 60W USB-C adapter, sold separately, both phones reach 50 percent in around 15 minutes; Apple adds that five minutes on a cable gives the Pro Max about seven hours of video playback. A 35W adapter with MagSafe reaches 50 percent in 30 minutes, and MagSafe and Qi2 both top out at 25W. Last year’s 17 Pro claimed 50 percent in 20 minutes with a 40W adapter.
