iPhone Duo will support Apple Pencil on both of its displays, according to Apple’s press release, which names one model, the Apple Pencil (USB-C), and says support arrives later in 2026. No date is attached, and the Duo itself does not ship until Friday, October 23.
Pencil support was one of the rumors we tracked in our pre-keynote iPhone Duo preview, and Apple has now confirmed it. What Apple has not confirmed is whether the feature will be ready on launch day or arrive in a software update after the Duo’s iOS 27.1 release.
Which Apple Pencil works with iPhone Duo
The only model Apple names is the Apple Pencil (USB-C). Apple has not said whether Apple Pencil Pro or the second-generation Apple Pencil will work, and it has not published whether the Duo can attach or charge a Pencil magnetically.

A Pencil is not in the box. Apple’s specs list the box contents as the iPhone and a 1-meter USB-C cable, so the Pencil is a separate purchase, as are the $79 iPhone Duo Case and the $129 Folio.

The displays the Pencil will draw on
The inner display is a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR OLED at 1878 by 2670 pixels and 430 ppi, which Apple calls the largest, thinnest iPhone display ever. Its cover is a custom polymer that Apple says is 40 percent stiffer than the industry standard, laid over high-strength glass layers, with a scratch-resistant coating and a nano-texture finish.
The outer 5.4-inch display sits behind Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple says has three times better scratch resistance. Apple has not published how either surface is rated against a Pencil tip over time, or whether the Pencil behaves differently on the two displays.
Why ‘later this year’ instead of at launch
Apple has not explained the timing. The Duo ships with iOS 27.1 on October 23, so Pencil support would presumably arrive through a later software update, but Apple has not said which release will carry it. “Later in 2026” leaves a window that runs to the end of December.
There is also no published bundle price for the Pencil with the Duo, and no word on whether the Folio, which has an integrated kickstand, has a place to carry one.
