Walmart Discounts iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s, Accepts 100 Smartphones as Trade-Ins

Walmart announced on Thursday that it will offer Apple's new iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s at a discount. The big box retail giant said that it would take a break from destroying the middle class* by selling the 16GB iPhone 5c for US$79 under contract, a $20 discount, while the 16GB iPhone 5s will be sold for $189, a $10 discount.

The company also announced a smartphone trade-in program that will accept 100 smartphone models with discounts ranging from $50 to $300. The trade-in program follows Apple, AT&T Verizon, and others, but Walmart's program allows you to purchase any smartphone—including Apple's iPhone line—with the trade-in allowance.

"Examples of trade-in values for working, non-damaged smartphones include: $300 for an Apple iPhone 5, $175 for a Samsung Galaxy SIII and $52 for a Samsung Galaxy S2," Walmart said in its press release.

Walmart said that customers can preorder the iPhone 5c for $79 on Friday, September 13th, but only from the customer service desk at their local store. One's iPhone 5c can then be picked up on September 20th and must be picked up by September 25th.

The iPhone 5s discounts will be available in-store starting on September 20th when the device goes on sale.

If you're in the market for an older iPhone, Walmart is also discounting those. 16GB iPhone 5 models will be $79, while 8 and 16GB iPhone 4S models will be priced at $0.97, though why anyone would get the 8GB model...whatever. Discounts all around, hooray.

The iPhone 4 will be priced at $0.10, and that price will include a $100 Walmart gift card.
