SK Hynix just approved a massive $38.3 billion investment to build two new semiconductor fabrication plants in South Korea. SK Hynix will spend about $24.9 billion on a new fabrication plant in Yongin to produce high-bandwidth memory and next-generation DRAM products. The remaining $13.2 billion will fund a separate facility in Cheongju dedicated to manufacturing NAND storage chips.

Construction for these sites will kick off next year. The company expects to finish building and open its first cleanrooms between late 2028 and June 2029. By expanding its footprint, SK Hynix hopes to lock in a stronger position to supply the hardware needed for data centers and advanced computing.
