Foundation is coming back for a fourth season on Apple TV, but Apple has not announced a premiere date. The renewal dates back to September 11, 2025, when Apple said production on season 4 would begin in early 2026.
That announcement is still the most recent season 4 news on Apple’s own press site, so this is a status check rather than a fresh renewal. Apple’s official renewal notice remains the primary source for everything below.
What Apple has confirmed about season 4

Where season 3 left off
Season 3 premiered on Apple TV on July 11, 2025, according to Apple’s Foundation press page. Its finale, titled “The Darkness,” debuted on September 12, 2025, the day after the renewal was announced.
Apple’s summary of season 3 describes a Foundation that has grown in power while the Cleonic Dynasty weakens. A warlord known as the Mule emerges as a threat to the galaxy, setting up what Apple calls a game of intergalactic chess involving Hari Seldon, Gaal Dornick, the Cleons and Demerzel.
The season 3 cast named by Apple included Jared Harris, Lee Pace, Lou Llobell, Cherry Jones and Troy Kotsur, along with Brandon P. Bell, Synnøve Karlsen, Cody Fern, Tómas Lemarquis, Alexander Siddig, Pilou Asbæk, Laura Birn, Cassian Bilton, Terrence Mann and Rowena King. Apple has not said which of those actors return for season 4, so treat any season 4 cast list that does not come from Apple as unconfirmed.

Foundation is an Apple TV original, so the earlier seasons stream on Apple TV through the Apple TV app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV hardware and supported smart TVs and streaming devices, as well as on the web. A subscription is required.

What is still unknown
Apple has not confirmed the season 4 premiere date, the number of episodes, the returning or new cast, or any plot details. It also has not given a release window. Production starting in early 2026 does not by itself tell viewers when the season will be ready, since effects-heavy series like Foundation can spend a long time in post-production.
