OpenAI has launched GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, expanding the GPT-6 family with two lower-cost models beneath its flagship Astra tier. Both models begin rolling out today in ChatGPT Work and Codex, while developers can use them through the API.
According to OpenAI’s launch announcement, API prices are 50% lower than the promotional prices for the comparable GPT-5.6 models. GPT-6 Sol costs $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. GPT-6 Luna costs $0.10 for input and $0.50 for output, making it the cheapest member of the new family.
Where Sol and Luna are available
Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu customers can access the models in ChatGPT Work and Codex as the rollout progresses. Free and Go users receive Luna in the desktop app. OpenAI says neither model is available in regular Chat yet, an important distinction for anyone looking for them in a standard conversation.

Developers can call the models with the IDs gpt-6-sol and gpt-6-luna. Cached input reads receive a 90% discount. OpenAI continues to position GPT-6 Astra as its most capable model, so Sol and Luna are aimed at customers who want a different balance of performance, speed, and cost.
The pricing shift is substantial compared with the GPT-5.6 launch, when Sol started at $5 for input and $30 for output and Luna cost $1 and $6. It also arrives as OpenAI continues adjusting usage limits for paid users across its work products.
The rollout is gradual and continues through the day, so eligible accounts may not see both choices immediately. OpenAI has not announced when Sol or Luna will reach regular Chat. For now, the new models are choices for Work, Codex, and API workloads, while users who need the strongest GPT-6 reasoning still have Astra as the company’s recommended option.
