Recovered memories may alter their history
Season 2 treats memory as evidence that arrives out of order. Amy’s early picture of Joan comes from an older period, before the relationships and mistakes she cannot recall. A new fragment may reveal that mentor and student had already divided over an important choice.
That uncertainty gives Huffman a character who can be warm without being automatically safe. Joan does not need to become a conventional villain. Divided loyalties, professional judgment or a secret kept for protective reasons could all damage Amy’s trust.
